Florida, NCAA looking into possible violations

07/19/2010 - Gainesville, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The University of Florida has reportedly informed the NCAA of a possible rules violation involving former football player Maurkice Pouncey that could wind up costing the Gators their win in the Sugar Bowl this past season.

The Gainesville Sun is reporting that Pouncey, a junior center for Florida last year, received money from the representative of an agent between the SEC Championship Game and the Gators' Sugar Bowl matchup against Cincinnati on January 1. An ESPN report put the figure at $100,000.

The paper cited a released statement from athletic director Jeremy Foley that acknowledged the two sides were looking into the allegations.

"We were made aware of some information in early June that we reported to law enforcement and we then shared with the NCAA and the SEC," Foley said in the statement. "At this time we have no information that has indicated that there are any compliance issues for the University of Florida."

Pouncey was drafted by the Steelers with the 18th overall pick in April. If the allegations are found to be true, the NCAA could retroactively rule Pouncey ineligible for the Sugar Bowl and Florida could wind up vacating the victory.
