Francoeur, Wright help Mets take series from Twins

06/27/2010 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jeff Francoeur and David Wright each had three hits, including a two-run homer apiece, as the New York Mets handled the Minnesota Twins, 6-0, in the rubber match of three-game interleague series at Citi Field.

Francoeur finished a triple shy of the cycle and Ike Davis cracked a solo shot and scored twice for the Mets, who have won four of their last six. Jesus Feliciano went 3-for-5 with a run scored for New York.

Jon Niese (5-2) earned the win for allowing four hits and three walks in six- plus innings. The left-hander fanned five in his first career start against the Twins.

Orlando Hudson and Nick Punto each had a pair of hits for Minnesota, which has lost of five of its last six and went 3-6 on the nine-game road trip.

Scott Baker (6-7) was roughed up for 11 hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings and fell to 1-5 in eight road starts this season. The right-hander fanned six and did not issue a walk.

Each team stranded a pair of runners in the first inning and neither team threatened until the Mets put two up in the fourth. Davis reached with a leadoff single and after the next two batters were retired, Francoeur lined an 0-1 curveball over the left field wall.

Niese worked out of a second and third and one out jam in the top of the fifth and New York added four more in the home half.

Jesus Feliciano hit a ground-rule double with one away before Wright cracked a two-run shot into the left field seats. Davis followed with a solo shot to right-center and Jason Bay tripled to spell Baker's exit. Alex Burnett took over on the hill and surrendered an RBI single to Rod Barajas for a 6-0 Mets advantage.

Later in the inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Ron Mahay came in and retired Jose Reyes to prevent further damage.

Niese allowed a leadoff walk to Danny Valencia in the seventh and was promptly lifted in favor of Elmer Dessens, who gave up two hits, but was able to work out of a bases-loaded and two-out situation.

Pedro Feliciano threw a perfect eighth inning and Bobby Parnell finished off the victory with a scoreless ninth.

Game Notes

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau was given the day off for rest...Despite the loss, Minnesota has won six of the last nine in the series...The Mets finished 13-5 in interleague play this season...Minnesota was shut out for only the fourth time this season...The Mets went 4-2 on their six-game homestand.
